Under Illinois law a person commits robbery when they use force or threats to remove property that does not belong to them. Robbery is a Class 2 felony and is punishable by a 3 to 7 year prison sentence or parole. In some robbery convictions, the sentence can be as much as 7 to 14 years in prison. If the robbery is deemed a Class 1 felony charge depending on who or where a person was robbed, the punishment can include a 4 to 15 year prison sentenced. Armed robberies are the most serious. They are Class X felonies and carry a mandatory 6 to 30 year prison sentence with no chance of parole.
